Winter is here to stay, with everyone rugging up to stay warm on these cooler days. Not only is it a great time to revamp your wardrobe with new winter woollies, but an excellent time to play with raw textures and layers to rug up your home. While Australia doesn’t get snow quite like the majority of European countries, I still envisage the wonderfully rustic ski lodges in Austria as my ideal winter getaway. Who can resist those beautifully raw finishes teamed up with soft linens, fur throws and plush rugs!
Each of these rooms follow similar design rules but they have been applied in slightly different ways. Darker timbers or black accents in a room will help add depth to the space as it adds a warm under tone that will ground the lighter furniture pieces. Light linen sofas with charcoal and brown contrasting cushions will also help create this same feel.
The mix of different textures through layering creates a very relaxing, holistic feel. The timber flooring and panelled walls are the perfect canvas to layer plush woollen rugs and linen sofas, with contrasting dark timber coffee tables and dining tables. Large beautiful industrial style pendant lights create another focal point while also bringing the eye back down to the space below.
Just by adding a few contrasting and tonal cushions with a couple of raw textures, it will instantly help create a cosy space in your home to rug up in on these cold winter days.
