The colours of 2017
Pantone generally have their finger on the pulse of what’s next in colour, and their rose quartz choice for 2016 saw the tone on everything from pillows to iPhones. The Pantone colours for 2017 are a take on bold, fresh and cool tones, which provide an exciting palette for interior styling. These colours include kale, hazelnut, pink yarrow, greenery, pale dogwood, flame, lapis blue, Niagara blue and primrose yellow. The main Pantone colour for this year is greenery, a revitalising yellow-green shade that can easily be brought into your spaces through (you guessed it) plants and succulents, or furniture and artwork.
Take a walk on the dark side
We’ve had the all-white trend for a few years now, and now we seem to be shifting into a love of deeper and richer tones for furniture and feature walls. As per the Pantone guide, colours including deep green and coral tones will be embraced in order to add some much-needed hue to bedrooms, living rooms and home libraries. Choosing just the right sophisticated shade will ensure the space doesn’t date over time.
Terracotta and organic textures
There is a drive towards more organic and rough textures in 2017, perhaps to balance out the shiny devices and sleek surfaces we’ve come to know in recent years. These textures include matte terracotta next to lush greenery, woven baskets and furniture, and indulgent linen used in tablecloths and bed dressings. Cork is going to be another big look for 2017 and beyond.
Artisanal artwork
The direction towards unique artisanal pieces in home styling is perhaps another sign of shiny device overload. Choose meaningful pieces collected on travels, embroidered or woven wall hangings and expressive, textural paintings. The more rustic and real the better, while neutral tones on walls and floors can help to avoid a sensorial overload.
